Good thought. I didn't even go the...Lex,

Good thought. I didn't even go there, but the good Sheik not being American does complicate the question of how many rights we owe him. "Human rights" language often translates to the assertion that folks have a right to be in western nations and our protections.
It is complicated. Does an illegal immigrant who has lived in the US or Aussie since youth, worked and raised a family and bought a home have more rights than a person who just broke our border laws yesterday?

As a culturist I would be into stricter laws against illegals from terrorist nations. And I like our history of military courts for combatants. I only balk at your use of the word "international". Do we need Saudi permission?

Less controversially, they read the x-mas bomber his miranda rights and so now cannot interrogate him.

I owe u a reflection on the 60s.

Thanks, Culturist JohnAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5306935107490146994.post-42837242576643245472010-01-30T02:59:17.169-05:002010-01-30T02:59:17.169-05:00I would have assumed that only a member of a socie...I would have assumed that only a member of a society could claim the rights that are given within that society. An outsider doesn't automatically have access to those rights. Further, an outsider who is openly hostile, aggressive and contemptuous of that society should not automatically be granted the same rights as citizens of that society. I would look at the Nuremberg trials for some example of a precedent although Nuremberg was limited to War Crimes. Maybe it's time for a new set of laws to be put in place under the umbrella of International Law but specifically to cover terrorists.Lexcenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17856993035719777231noreply@blogger.com
